Well this is exciting

We finally have everyone signed up as contributors!

I hope this blog starts to get some more action. It's been very sexually frustrated lately.

A big question for me is how do we create the middle of June in the middle of December? I want the audience to experience that slightly hot June summer, but without blasting them with heat. Something I've been trying to pay attention to lately is how the heat affects people physically, and take note of that. I invite you all to do the same.

That's all for now.

  1. We can very easily make it feel that way simply by lighting the show as a summer show it should not be to difficult at all. We also Could if you wanted put heat sources over the seating however This get tricky bc of the rules of the space. Also anyone know how techs are happening now that the bldgs are closed on sundays

  2. While I think that is a really cool idea to use heat sources, I think we all learned from The Bacchae that making the audience physically uncomfortable (either by touching them or otherwise) is not a good idea. I would rather make them mentally feel the heat, and I think lighting will definitely play a big role in that.

  3. Well, I have something to share.

I just sat down on one of those benches at the Francisco brown line stop. Mind you, it is not sweltering by any means, maybe a pleasant 78, not unlike June. But god damn - that bench stung the back of my legs, and I quickly jumped back up (it didn't help that my skirt would not allow for any protection of my skin). I went to find a bench in the shade, and when I sat down this time, it was with a a bit of a springing back in anticipation, even though the bench was cool to the touch.

I also wanted to add that while we don't know the specifics of tech, last semester in directing class we discussed how might be the best way for tech to go, and you all should definitely be informed of how I think my tech may go:

It'd be the normal load-in on Thursday, tech all of Friday and Saturday, then off Sunday (definitely do some painting Saturday night!) We'd have a dress Monday night, then have our first performance on Tuesday.
This means we'd have Monday and up until the performance on Tuesday to finish up anything or do last minute tweaking.

I know this is not an ideal schedule, but it does give us the same amount if time in tech, technically. Also, the plus side of having Sunday off is that, since this will probably be a very digital play, we can use that time to tweak things on the computer from the comfort of home, and we can always meet at my place to work.

The other thing to keep in mind is that since this play goes up the last week of the semester, that means scheduling 4 performances on 3 days is next to impossible. Luckily, no one loads in after us, so I asked DP if we could have a performance on Friday. He obviously can't promise anything, but it is a possibility, so we may be striking on Friday.

I know that's a lot if information about something very far away. Don't worry too much about it, I'm certainly not.
